Last year, I reviewed the book CHOCOLAT by Joanne Harris. I’m contented to record that this film adaptation is even better than the print version. And how often can one say that with a straight face?
The film begins with a north wind blowing Vianne (Juliette Binoche) and her daughter Anouk (Victoire Thivisol) into a dinky French village at the very beginning of Lent, that pre-Easter period of time, which, in the Catholic liturgy, is dedicated to prayer and physical self-denial. It’s not a suitable time for Vianne, an apparent non-Christian, to commence up a chocolate shop across the town square from the church. But, she does so anyway, distinguished to the dread of the village mayor, the Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina) . Reynaud is puritanically obvious to shut the shop down, and Vianne is equally certain to sustain it originate. An irresistible force meets an immovable object.
CHOCOLAT, both the book and movie, is a whimsical comedy that blossoms as Lent progresses, and Vianne’s shop becomes a space of healing and sanctuary for several of the town’s shrinking residents. Because Vianne’s store is seen (by the local Church establishment) as diametrically opposed to the spirit of the season, the fable can also be taken as a gentle chronicle of conflict between Christianity and paganism.

Juliette Binoche is delicate in her role. (I believe I’m in adore.) Judi Dench is her usual pleasant best as Armande, an traditional widow deprived of her grandson’s company by an over-protective mother, Armande’s enjoy daughter (Carrie-Anne Moss) . There’s also a tiny role played by Leslie Caron. (Where’s she been in unusual years? ) And Alfred Molina is positively shimmering as the uptight mayor, so dominant that he personally writes the Sunday sermons to be delivered by the local pastor, Fr. Henri, apparently only recently ordained and mighty in terror of the Comte. Johnny Depp has an challenging role as one member of a band of despised river gypsies impartial floating through.
One very great reason why CHOCOLAT the film is better than CHOCOLAT the book is the added dimension of visualization which the ancient imparts to several elements of the storyline, specifically the mysterious wind that blew our heroine into town, Anouk’s pet Pantoufle, the delightful chocolates themselves (seductively arrayed in the shop window), and the climax of the conflict between Vianne and the Comte.
CHOCOLAT the film is one that will have the audience leaving the theater feeling trustworthy, and maybe wishing for a cup of Vianne’s hot chocolate with a pinch of cayenne pepper. I can’t recommend this cinematic gem enough.
Lasse Hallstrom’s film version of the Joanne Harris’ new Chocolat is as toothsome a confection as were the heroines’ chocolate creations themselves. The set is intricate and sharp, carrying the viewer through the emotional transformations of each of the main characters. In a sleepy medieval French town where life has assumed a repressive structure that has created an emotionally frozen and empty life for even the most highly placed members of its society, the heroine Vianne and her daughter reach to dwelling up a chocolate shop. With her wonderfully concocted sweets she manages to liberate some of the denizens of the town, revealing their potential for greater happiness. The myth has a sense of account, fantasy, and fairytale about it that leaves the viewer with a feeling of personal satisfaction.

This is a film pudgy of strong female performers. Judi Dench is especially improbable as a curmudgeonly elderly woman estranged from her daughter and forbidden to witness her grandson. Juliette Binoche does a shapely job as the heroine. She is as fragile and seductive as Monroe in some scenes and as forceful and independent as Bacall in others. Lena Olin is astounding as the abused wife who rises from the confusion and ashes of her gain ruined personality like a phoenix under the influence of the heroine.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a ling while, and I query to order and read the book upon which it was based–something I rarely do. Pop Up Displays Flush Mount Wedding Album Quitting Smoking Cigarette Smokeless Cigarette Pop Up Trade Show Display

Solid fantasy anime is few and far between but that’s simply not the case in the video game world where fantasy titles have reigned supreme since the days of programming in Basic. Wisely, a few companies have taken mark of this fact and rather than simply tool a unique fantasy realm from the ground up, transfer an established video game title into the piquant medium. Enter The Tower of Druaga from FUNimation.

Released across a pair of discs (thin packs within a cardboard outer slipcase), The Tower of Druaga Allotment 1 consists of episodes 1-12 and comes in at a total runtime of 280 minutes. It wears an appropriate TV 14 rating due to violence and light supernatural imagery.
Language options are standard sub & dub with both an English dub (Dolby 5.1 Digital Surround) and unique Japanese soundtrack (stereo) & the choice of English subtitled if so inclined to turn them on.

Extras are nice and thorough and include A Fable Told Twice: An alternate search for at the first episode, an English commentary track over the 5th episode, textless songs, a host of FUNimation trailers on the second disc.
The narrative goes something like this: Summer comes to a mystical land once every five years (called the Summer of Anu here), and it is during this time that monsters hidden away within the mysterious Tower of Druaga lose their powers thanks to the intercession of an idol appropriately named “Anu”.
Each Summer of Anu, the armies of the Uruk Kingdom glean their strongholds within the Tower, aiming to eventually conquer the upper floors in these periods where the demons’ powers are at their weakest. It’s been 60 years since the last human conquest of the tower (by a courageous warrior King named Gilgamesh) and as far as huaminty is concerned, the creatures of the night wrecking havoc from within the tower are overdue for a whipping.
The yarn begins with the third Summer of Anu in the city of Meskia, which fair so happens to be the human stronghold built on the first level of the massive Tower. The Uruk (human) Army is preparing for their campaign against Druaga; the enigmatic leader of the noxious creatures occupying the levels above the stronghold. Getting in the method of warriors are freelance cherish hunters called “Climbers” who have traveled from distant lands to pursue rumors of a legendary adore being guarded by Druaga called the Blue Crystal Rod.
We follow along with the adventures of a young warrior named Jil, who, despite a immense heart, is after the Blue Crystal Rod himself.
The place structure is such that it focuses primarily on a few cramped groups of adventurers seeking to climb the Tower of Druaga and defeat the legendary Druaga once and for all (although it is explained several times that King Gilgamesh have him a spanking 60 years earlier but that seems not to have affected his ability to cause disaster) . What this translates to for the viewer is a blend of action with a “speed to the top” undertone working subliminally.
In truth it’s no surprise that the video game incarnation was so successful since the premise boils down to overcoming challenges and dispatching monsters on a floor-by-floor basis. Progression is fairly linear with the stout abominable guy waiting at the very top floor (with the love) .
The mythology comes off as a sort of blend of ragged Norse material mixed with a bit of early Anglo narrative (mediate Beowulf) with impartial a hint of Asian influence in the effect of massive dragon-like baddies. In all it works very well.
The visuals are quite powerful as well if not for their shipshape, crisp glance throughout, for the fact that often times it looks like an engrossing screenshot directly from the early Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior games. Nobody does the fantasy protagonist quite as uniquely as the Japanese and this fact is reinforced here.
The direction is nearly flawless as would be expected from the same man responsible for Last Exile. Pacing, lighting, and individual shots are beautifully constructed and lend heavy-merit to the fantasy world itself.
Voice acting is stellar in both incarnations with my nod tipping very slightly toward the English dub on this one. Not to hold anything away from the impeccable Japanese vocal track, my concept is simply a testament to the quality dubbing FUNimation has been turning out of slow.
In all this is a astonishing runt fantasy series filled with heavenly visuals, nice direction, and a area solid enough to retain the episodes flying by. Best of all the prose doesn’t glean bogged down or purchase itself too seriously by interjecting a dose of humor in moments that would otherwise be tension-ridden. Highly recommended. Customer Reviews:
Great Lens at a great price I’ve never been a big fan of Sigma Zoom lenses, but their prime lenses are top notch. I’ve been using the Sigma 105mm and 50mm macro primes on my Canon full frame bodies so I decided to pick this lens up for my Nikon D300 to give me a 105mm equiv lens for that system.
In a nutshell, this lens is fantastic. It is very sharp corner-to-corner on my Nikon D300. It is sharp wide open at f/2.8 and stays sharp up until about f/11, where it starts to soften just a bit. Lens construction is very sturdy and typical of the top-end sigma primes. Autofocus speed is adequate but not as fast as the best Nikon lenses. It also makes a little more noise when focusing. Manual focusing is excellent with a very smooth and precise feel. I really like this lens and it may be one of the sharpest prime lenses on the market. I highly recommend it.
It’s good, but it’s *not* a constant f2.8 lens (edit: most Macro aren’t!) Bought this to pair with my Nikon D90. It’s a sharp lens that’s very pleasant to use. As the other reviewer said, it’s a ‘nice’ length on an APS-C sized sensor, ~105mm. Sharpness is on par with the venerable Nikkor 50mm f1.8, IMHO. So that’s great. Not unexpected though, as this is supposedly Sigma’s sharpest prime lens and it’s a Macro lens, which by definition has to be tack sharp. Build quality seems very good too. All in all, it’s a nice lens at a good price.
Focus is slow compared to AF-S lenses, but only because there’s such a huge focal range. This lens does seem hunt a lot on my D90, even in bright light. It’ll often have to run the focus across the entire range to get a lock, and that’s a pain. However, flipping the focus limiter switch solves it and makes it focus just as fast as my other non AF-S lenses. So that’s ok. And for macro shots I’d usually be focusing manually anyway, so it’s not a big deal. But it’s just not quite as quick as my AF-S lenses.
I also don’t like the fact that the lens cap won’t snap on when the sunshade is screwed on. Makes it a bit of a pain when you’re out and about and want to cap the lens, as you’ve got to unscrew the shade (and put it somewhere - it doesn’t reverse) to put the cap on. A pain compared to Nikkor shades that allow the cap while they’re installed, even while reversed.
But there is one major negative that none of the other reviews have touched upon. And it’s nearly a deal-breaker for me. This is NOT a true f2.8 fixed lens. It is from 10ft to infinity, but below that the max aperture grows as the subject distance decreases. At 1:1 magnification, 3-4 inches away, maximum aperture is f4.8. This is not really what I had in mind when I bought this lens, and I may return it because it’s not going to work as well as I had hoped. I bought an f2.8 lens expecting a constant aperture. I was wrong. I actually think it’s a bit of deceptive advertising on the part of Sigma. Since it’s primary purpose is to be a Macro lens, they should be clear that it’s an f2.8 lens only at decidedly non-macro focal ranges. This is really an f4.8 Macro lens, which isn’t so great. So just be advised before you purchase this lens.
Followup:
Apparently, a variable aperture at decreasing macro distances is common to many macro lenses, including Nikon’s own 60mm f2.8 and 105mm f2.8 macro lenses. So I can’t pick on Sigma too much for this. I’m new to the world of dedicated macro lenses, and I didn’t know this ‘feature’ was just the way these lenses worked. Taking this into consideration, the 70mm Sigma is perhaps more deserving of four (4) stars, rather than three. I’d edit my star rating but I can’t.
This also makes me reevaluate my comments about potentially returning this Sigma. I was strongly considering returning the Sigma and picking up the 60mm f2.8 Nikkor Macro instead. I had assumed that the Nikkors would be truly constant f2.8 lenses. I would have been wrong! Since the Nikkor’s do this variable aperture thing too, I’m thinking I’ll just keep the Sigma - as other than this aperture thing, it’s a great lens. Lesson learned!
Recommended buy This lens performs better than I expected. I bought this lens for macro and with the 1:1 ratio, it gives great pictures. With its f/2.8 at 70mm (which is equivalent to a 105mm in digital) it does work brilliantly for portraits (I thought it could be slightly slow but it is not at all!). At this price, it is a great lens to have in your bag.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent ! This subwoofer is made to produce QUALITY sound. Some reviews here and elsewhere complain that it does not pump out high amounts of booming base. This is not a car sub. It is a home theater sub. It produces very clean and tight base, at respectable levels, even when playing action movies. I much rather have realistic base than simply a big box that pumps out low frequency vibration. I’ve tested many subs, and for this price point, you cannot get better quality. That said, if you have a very large room, you may have to turn the volume up high to get the same level that cheaper subs put out. Also, placement within the room is everything when it comes to subs. Don’t hesitate: If you can get this for 350-450, buy it.
Superb sub, even better customer service! I purchased this sub along with four new Def Tech Pro 1000 monitors and a Pro2000 center. I did not like the sound, and weak aesthetics of the Def Tech 1000 sub, thus I turned to JBL. Have owned many of their products over the years and have been quite please, though they have gone a little mainstream, and would support only their high end offering.
Customer Service: Couldn’t believe it, but my first one that came was dead on arrival. Nothing, cables, receiver setting, just one big heavy dead black box. Contacted JBL, they had me try an analog run through the DVD output to be sure, but again nothing. They told me to return it as it was obviously defective. They even offered to replace itself themselves if I had any trouble through the retailer! I’ll take that kind of service and caring any day!
Customer service, part 2: Called Amazon and explained the situation, they sent a new one at no charge, overnight and sending a call tag to return the bad one. I could not ask for better customer service, my hat’s off to you, and empowering your customer service rep’s to rectify the situation. No haggling, complaining, or needing to talk your way up the ladder to get something done. This is the makings of a customer for life.
Performance: Sounds wonderful. Sealed sub’s like this are very musical, and very very tight. I love this type of sound. Ported subs are a cheap way to get the specs better, IMO, and requires alot less power. This sub has power to spare. It might not get all the way down like some people like, but this baby is low and super tight, not woofy just to vibrate the walls. Try some DTS or DD 5.1 concert videos, and you will know exactly what I mean. At +/- $400 bucks or so, unbelievable value, and as bonus, has a nice small footprint to easily position.
Great Sub for most applications/homes We got two of these to go with our new surround sound system. All of the others are bookshelf speakers so we needed more bass for both music and movies. For me these speakers do an excellent job covering the low end. After some adjustments and fine-tuning they are working perfectly with the rest of the system. The bass is clean and crisp without overwhelming the rest of the system. I think you will find the bass from these more refined like at a movie theatre then some of the weaker subs out there that strain to keep up with the rest of the system. It does drop down to 22hz so you can feel it as well as hear it but it’s not going to shake your pictures off the wall. I’m sure we didn’t need two but….
They have a lot of power with the built in 600-watt amp. Be careful when comparing powered subs. Most manufacturers list the peak power for their subs so when you see 400 watts you may think it’s comparable but if you look close that is peak with maybe 200 watts nominal. The L8400 shows 600 watts and that is nominal with 1200 watts peak. It is hard to find another sub with this power for the price from a company that is known for quality speakers. Kudos to JBL for giving us honest numbers and not trying to mislead us.
The sub is always plugged in and will turn on when it receives a signal from the AV receiver. At this point a blue light comes on, on the top of the sub. This lets you know that it is up and running. One quirk that I have noticed is that one of our subs will chirp when this happens and the other does not. They both work and sound the same except for the power on chirp. The chirp is a good audio reminder that it is activated.
Like the entire JBL Studio L series this is a beautiful piece of furniture and will look good in any room. Though the speaker itself is an impressive 12″ the actual housing is not much bigger at about a 15″ cube so it will fit very well in a limited space. The Studio L series speakers come in 3 color options of black, cherry and beach. Though all of the other speakers we have are cherry I went with black for the subs. It was a little cheaper and the general rule is subs are OK black even if the rest of the system is not.
Amazon.com Product Description The Studio L8400P is a powerful 12″ powered subwoofer with a 600-watt digital amplifier. It is built with a cast aluminum frame chassis that helps give you outstanding bass response.

Here’s the sharp thing about Richard Linklater’s “A Scanner Darkly”: for a film about heavy drug exercise dwelling in the not too distant future, it’s probably one of the most just and complex anti-drug stories ever told. I say this in spite of the fact that I found the specifics of the space incredibly difficult to seize. All I could comprehend were the general bits of information, most of which were gathered from trailers and commercials. Apparently, a fictional drug called Substance D rules the streets of Orange County, California. It’s a highly addictive, brain-frying narcotic that has a long list of negative side effects. It’s also an illegal substance, one that undercover cop Bob Arctor (Keanu Reeves) has gotten quite familiar with in his attempt to locate its main distributor. Upon infiltrating the home of a group of pill popping slackers, he starts using in order to blend in. Unfortunately, this drugged lifestyle eventually leaves him unable to distinguish reality from hallucinations.
Buy,Download, Or Stream A Scanner Darkly! Click Here
Through the cinematic process of rotoscoping, Linklater has enabled the audience to feel the right same procedure as Arctor does. Each frame of film was traced over and stylistically repainted, making the world the characters live in–as well as the characters themselves–look half like a cartoon and half like the physical realm. It was an absolutely fantastic peep, and I found that it gave the record an added dimension by representing a kind of realistic unreality (if that makes any sense at all) . In that sense, it’s almost symbolic that the undercover cops wear slump suits, which are high tech cloaks with anatomical images that continuously shift from one to the next (apparently, a single suit can project millions of appearances) . The station of the world these characters live in is ruled by uncertainty and deception. Arctor is ultimately tested, not only in terms of what he believes to be the truth, but in terms of his place of mind, as well.
I now understand why that rotoscoping process was traditional for an adaptation of a Philip K. Dick new. Only he could have written about the life-destroying effects of an addictive substance. Likewise, only this kind of film can do justice to the point he was trying to acquire, namely that you can’t trust anyone, especially when you’re addicted to a grand drug. Unfortunately, elaborating on that point would give too great away; I will say that all in this movie isn’t exactly as it seems, and more than a couple of characters have hidden agendas. There are a number of truths hidden amongst the film’s eccentric style, and by the time you net halfway through, you’re completely lost.
Buy,Download, Or Stream A Scanner Darkly! Click Here
However, this is the kind of movie you don’t mind getting lost in, even if you have no conception what’s going on. I have to admit that while I understood the underlying message of the record, I barely understood this film as a whole. Watching the sequences unfold and listening to the characters interact is almost as brain scrambling as the wicked Substance D is. This is especially honest of the conversations between James Barris (Robert Downey, Jr.), Ernie Luckman (Woody Harrelson), and Charles Freck (Rory Cochrane), three of Arctor’s equally spaced out friends. Their esoteric banter flows seamlessly from topic to topic in an Altered Consciousness sort of plot, filled with anti-establishment ramblings that almost near off as poetic. It even gets amusing at times; during a road trail to San Diego, Barris claims he left the front door of their house unlocked and attached a notice for burglars to read (which, supposedly, was all share of an justify way to recount the intruder and solve the mystery gradual the Substance D ring) .
There are some consuming moments shared between Arctor and his girlfriend, Donna Hawthorne (Winona Ryder) . Their relationship revolves around their mutual abuse of Substance D, which doesn’t exactly enhance their moments together so great as it leaves them in a perpetually dazed region of awareness. Their conversations are almost as esoteric as those of Barris, Luckman, and Freck, the only disagreement being a cramped degree of intimate, meaningful language. One also gets the sense that Arctor is trying to understand Donna as a person, specifically why she’s behaving in definite ways. He knows how devastating the effects of Substance D can be, and he fears that maybe she’s going too far with her usage. The two explain great misfortune for one another, even when they secure themselves lost in a conversation about drooping, floating cats.
Despite the free flowing course the myth takes, everything does near together by the destroy. “A Scanner Darkly” is one of those movies that can cleverly camouflage slack a hallucinogenic facade in order to shriek a serious message. If you’re considering seeing this movie, you have to be willing to find jerked around somewhat, especially when it comes to your expectations for solid characterizations and straightforward storytelling. I believe I knew all along that I’d accept this film confusing; the ads made it perfectly certain that this was a very unconventional project. But in the slay, I didn’t really mind; the legend takes on the originate of a seriously warped puzzle, and I welcomed the opportunity to achieve the pieces together and figure things out for myself.
Let me waste by quoting the tagline from Jim Henson’s “Labyrinth”: “A world where everything seems possible, and nothing is as it seems.” I net this to be a fitting intention to portray the world of “A Scanner Darkly.” If you examine it with that quote in mind, you unbiased might arrive away with a better thought of it.
This is a movie you definitely want on DVD - because you’ll want to observe it first with fair the movie playing, and then after that with the audio soundtrack that includes director Richard Linklater, actor Keanu Reeves and most importantly the daughter of Philip K Dick. The insights that she provides into the movie and the storyline are priceless.
It’s distinguished to realize that Philip K Dick usually wrote about characters, not action sequences - and specifically, he wrote about those in society who did not “fit in” well. If you glance through his stories, you’ll secure they often feature people who are misfits, who society overlooks or forgets. In A Scanner Darkly, the featured ‘oddballs’ are druggies crooked on Substance D - a drug that is never really described, but apparently causes paranoia and hallucinations.
The key here is to sit down with a glass of wine, a tall bowl of popcorn and choose succor for a character-driven sage. This isn’t a Rambo or Dirty Dozen myth - it’s about how people report to each other, in many subtle ways. It’s a peek of interactions.
I really devour that this was done in a combination of proper life acting and animation. It floors me that in unique times anyone might study down on this because it is a “cartoon”. Is a Renoir less friendly than an Ansel Adams because a Renoir was done by hand? Animation isn’t inherently kiddie. Hand drawn works can enjoy quite old-fashioned topics. In this case it is *ideally* splendid to the memoir - because a main aspect of the legend is that the characters never quite know what is dependable and what is imagination. Are the bugs really there? Can he trust what he sees? All signs point to NO. The viewer is caught up in this same confused world. If this had been live action, then ‘odd things’ would have instantly stood out. But the point of a drug haze is that everything seems ‘unreal’ - and so outlandish things fit into that high-tail distinguished more smoothly.
If you don’t know druggies, rest assured that characters like this are quite average - and this myth is in essence an autobiography of Philip K Dick’s life in the 70s. He lived in a house unbiased like this with his two brothers after his divorce. He lost his wife and two young girls. He was very paranoid that one of his house-mates was a narc, spying on their druggie activities. One of his friends did consider bugs were crawling on him. At the waste of the movie is Dick’s loyal ending to the memoir - a list of his friends who were damaged or slain by drugs. Included on this list are his ex-wife and himself.
So what you have in the movie are the druggies at turns being nice to each other, being very cruel to each other, mistrusting each other, and turning to each other for aid. One of the druggies - Bob - is actually a narc cop code-named Fred. He’s gone undercover to figure out who is supplying Substance D to the site. Unfortunately, he’s gotten himself bent during his undercover work. Even worse, fragment of what Substance D does is to demolish your brain - so he’s developed in essence split personalities. The Bob-Druggie portion forgets most of the time he IS a narc. The narc half of him, when he’s in the police spot, knows he’s spying on this group of druggies but forgets that he is one of them. So when the narc is told to specifically see on “Bob”, he literally doesn’t realize that this is him.
Here’s where the movie - trying to stuff a dense book into under 2 hours - has some problems. If you haven’t read the book, it’s not certain at all that Narc-Fred forgets who he is when he goes undercover as Bob. It’s a tremendous twist in the book, but in the movie it seems positive to the watcher that it’s the same person, and it’s not made determined in the sage that he’s forgetting his “other half”.
Other than that, the fable is really beautiful straightforward, plot-wise. The druggies are paranoid about the world around them and stagger on with their lives. The cops are trying to figure out who the supplier is, so they bug the house and try to glean that information. Like most Dick stories, there’s a twist, although to be impartial I concept it would be a remarkable larger twist. Also, like most Dick stories, there’s diminutive female presence and the ending is only slightly hopeful. These aren’t happy-go-lucky romances that he writes - they are murky warnings about where society is heading when it marginalizes those who don’t fit in perfectly.
If you’re confused about the movie, I definitely recommend reading the new. That might be easier to choose and give you more insight into the characters. Then go support and leer the movie again - taking it monotonous. Pay attention to the nuances of what they say, and how the characters recount. Gape how they feel society is treating them - and then purchase a witness what society actually does with these people. Maybe they aren’t quite so paranoid after all - maybe there is some resaon for how they feel.

If you loved “Romancing The Stone”, and can hardly pass the TV without stopping to notice when it’s on, then go ahead and follow the adventures of Jack, Joan and Ralph in Africa in “Jewel Of The Nile”. It may not stand up to the repeated viewings like RTS, but it is a fun and action packed sequel, and it is the characters that we have approach to cherish, that acquire us want to peer them in action in a modern and different narrative.
Joan(Kathleen Turner) and Jack(Michael Douglas) have been living together on his boat for six months already. Jack wants to retract off and glimpse the world, Joan has a bit of a writer’s block and wants more from life. Opportunity knocks on her door when a grand Sheik wants her to write his epic. She’s wisked off to Africa, leaving a brooding Jack slow, and immediatley finds herself in the midst of a mysterious, curious and very hazardous situtation intriguing an all remarkable “Jewel”. But have no panic, Jack is warned of the worry his beloved is in and is off to attach her. Ralph( Danny DeVito),who has been lurking about and hears the word “Jewel” is not going to be left out this time, and tags along as well. An added bonus to this one are the extraordinary Flying Karamazov Brothers juggling troupe, who jazz up this film a cramped with their tantalizing skills.

I probably would go a itsy-bitsy higher then 3 stars if I was objective rating the film, but I was a bit disappointed in the DVD transfer(especially compared to RTS) . It didn’t seem like mighty care went into it. The film is presented in widescreen, which is really nice, and takes in all the action and scenery nicely, and even the colors were nice and radiant, but the print was below average for a film of this age(1985) . It seemed grainey at times, and I often noticed scratches and even dirt. Beneficial sound in Dolby Surround, but with all the action and adventure in this film, DD5.1 would have been large.
The film may also be viewed in French and has subtitles in English and Spanish.
Fans of the first film, will certainly like spending more time with the gang, but may want to contemplate renting it first, if you haven’t seen it yet.
Get the Popcorn ready, and maybe some lemonade..it’s a hot race through the desert!…delight in…Laurie
newer edition together with romancing the stone:Romancing the Stone / Jewel of the Nile
I blinked and missed the eighties, too busy working and raising kids. So I picked this up, along with “Romancing the Stone,” in the nineties, and caught up!

Customer Reviews:
Best MP3 Video Player on the Market Best sound quality in an MP3 player. Better than my ipod touch 32gb. Excellent video and image quality. Easy navigation. Once you can feel the touch, you will never go back to the ipod.
Samsung P3 Palm Theatre Plus 32 GB MP3 Player (Black) This player has the most amazing sound of ANY MP3 player out there .(I own most of them) If sound/music is your bag, This is a MUST player to own. You will NOT be disappointed in its’ ability to reproduce any album music as they were meant to be heard. You can read the specs and reviews to/for this amazing player here or cnet. It’s all true. The software package for ripping, etc. has it’s issues as does all the other players with their rippers. I suggest using any other rippers (including Windows Media player 11) instead of the software that comes with this player. Regardless of what/which MP3 ripper you use, drag and drop to the device works just fine.
Economical super mp3 plus touchscreen I opened the box and was just amazed at the kind technology inside this small and personal mp3 player. The touchscreen is simply amazing. I am used to the way Samsung mp3 players work and have recently owned a Samsung T10 mp3 which had a similar technology with the front buttons that lit up. The capacity of the device is incredible and hope to use it for a long time. The bluetooth is awesome and more useful than my old T10 because for my headphones I could only control volume with my headset and with the P3 I can control everything. it even can automatically connect to hit!!! I’m happy with this product and encourage everyone to at least give it a chance. you can even get it cheaper with a refurbished one like I did.
From the Manufacturer Wouldn’t it be nice to have an MP3 player that listens to you? Samsung’s P3 does. You say you want short download times for DIVX movies. And you want to be able to easily put all your favorite utilities right where you want them. Plus have a wide screen that let’s you know you’ve been heard when you touch it. Of course Bluetooth would be nice too. The P3 does it all. And delivers audio quality that you’ll definitely want to listen to.
